Assam Board HS Final Exam 2026 Scheduled for February

The Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB), earlier known as AHSEC, has announced the Higher Secondary (HS) Final Examination 2026. The exams will be held between February and March 2026.

The online registration for eligible students starts on October 22 and ends on November 25, 2025. The Board has asked all junior colleges and higher secondary schools under Division-II to make sure every eligible student registers on time.

Applications will be accepted only online. Offline forms will not be accepted under any circumstance.

Eligibility and Institutional Guidelines

Students need to follow certain rules to appear for the HS Final Exam 2026:

  • A student’s registration number is valid for five years from the year of registration.
  • Students who miss the deadline cannot appear for the exam.
  • Only students from recognized institutions are considered regular candidates.
  • Students in non-recognized institutions in 2024–25 will be treated as Institutional Private (IP) candidates and must pay extra fees.
  • If a school loses recognition, its students automatically become IP candidates.

Fee Exemption: Students from government, provincialised, and recognized venture institutions with parental income ≤ Rs 2 lakh are exempted from the exam fee.

Special Categories Eligible for HS Final Exam 2026

ASSEB has also allowed candidates from special categories: Betterment, Re-appearance, Subject Repeat, Compartmental, and Certain Subject.

Betterment Chance / Re-appearance Scheme

Students who passed the HS Final Exam 2025 can apply under the Betterment or Re-appearance Scheme.

  • Betterment Scheme:
    • Apply online without Board permission.
    • Can appear in up to 4 subjects from the previous combination.
    • Practical papers must be retaken if included.
    • Marks obtained in 2026 will replace old scores.
    • A new consolidated marksheet will be issued after surrendering the old one.
  • Re-appearance Scheme:
    • For improving overall performance for engineering, medical, or other exams.
    • Students can reappear in all previous subjects.
    • Only the better result will be retained.
    • Marks from a single improved subject cannot be combined with old results.

Certain Subject Scheme

  • Students who passed the HS First Year Exam 2025 in certain subjects with Board permission must get fresh approval to appear in 2026.
  • Students from previous years who could not pass one elective subject may apply online for that subject only.

Compartmental and Repeat Categories

  • Compartmental Category: For students who failed one or more subjects in HS Final Exam 2025.
  • Repeat Category: For students who need to reappear in all subjects.
